Ford Flex is off the hook
21 AugFord used to be a piece of shit brand. In the last decade or so, their designs sucked. Their cars sucked. And their brand fell by the wayside. I would never even have considered a Ford, let alone buy one. But that changed with the Cash for Clunkers program.
We looked at Ford, Kia, Toyota and Honda. The first car we tested was the Ford Flex Limited Edition in Cinnamon. I still remember thinking about it the day after. You could say I was lusting. We needed a bigger family car and family members tried to sway us to buy the Toyota Sienna. But we’re not minivan drivers. And when you think of paying $27,000 for something that makes you feel weird and not proud, I think that’s just crazy.
I looked at the Four Runner and Highlander–all in the lower $30’s for base models.
Kia was really sad. The designs. The colors. It felt cheap. SUV were in the mid $20’s.
Honda was just arrogant as usual. No one said hi in the show room, so my husband left.
We even drove to several Ford dealerships: Darcars in Lanham and Bill Britt in Chantilly. Lanham had the Ford Flex SEL and Bill Britt had the Ford Flex Limited Edition.
The SEL is okay. It’s a nice size and it’s comfortable. But the Limited Edition makes you feel like a freaking kid on “Pimp My Ride.” It’s incredible. We were drooling.
Here’s just some of our Ford Flex Limited Edition features:
- 4 moon roofs (One for each room)
- Leather seats
- Second row seats fold out of the way with the touch of a button
- Trunk pops open with the touch of a button
- Rear-view camera
- Voice-activated navigation (phone, blue tooth, etc)
- Microsoft SYNC (Jukebox lets you download CDs onto a hard drive in your car, picture slide show, etc.) You can tell it to play Jay-Z or Lady Gaga, it will start playing the songs you downloaded. Sick!
- v-6 engine
- DVD player in the second row (and nav screen can also play DVD
We bought our 2009 Ford Flex Limited Edition for about $35K. Which is insanely crazy! If the car had a Toyota emblem on it, I believe it would cost $10K more. If it had a Lexus or BMW logo on it, it would cost $20-30K more. I feel like we got much more than we paid for. And I can definitely say, I am glad I chose Ford. And I can gladly say that Ford is no longer a piece of shit brand. It’s the future of American auto making. If you haven’t seen a Ford lately, you seriously need to. They’re really something!
Ukraine’s Got Talent
14 AugYes, even Ukraine has their own talent show. And their winner this year, Kseniya Simonova is absolutely mind-blowing. Imagine this: an artist telling the story of Germany conquering Ukraine during WW2. She shows peace, war, sadness, and so much more. She draws a couple on a bench which then morphs into a woman’s face. There’s a widow that’s weeping and then she transforms into an obelisk for an unknown soldier.
She sprinkles the sand on. She make powerful strokes. And all of these incredible scenes are done in sand and then destroyed and recreated. Kseniya Simonova’s story moves people and the judges to tears. Her style reminds of Chagall. It’s seriously really beautiful.

Eric Proulx’s “Lemonade”
7 AugEverybody is getting laid off in advertising these days. And there are no signs, the layoffs will stop any time soon.
Eric Proulx was a copywriter/ACD at the Arnold Worldwide headquarters in Boston. He was laid off in October and started a blog called Please Feed The Animals. His blog gives advice to newly laid off advertising victims and lets them guest blog. His blog has had a shit load of success and because of all of the support, he wanted to do more.
One thing became clear to him. The people who were laid off changed. Not for the worse, but for the better. They were doing things that would never have been possible if they were still working in advertising. Even changing their sex. This phenomenon got him to create a documentary called “Lemonade” about what’s happening and what happened to all of our fallen comrades.
Here’s a sneak peek:
Check out the “Lemonade” website to learn about more this incredible journey and movie.

From a 650-pound virgin to role model
16 JulLast night, I watched TLC’s “650-pound Virgin” story on David Smith, a man with a common name with a not-so-common problem. He was a morbidly obese man who almost ate himself to death. At his peak, he weighed a whopping 650 pounds.
As many of us struggle with our weights–I have yet to lose my pregnancy weight, David Smith is someone we can all relate to. He used to be someone who was unhappy with his body. Someone who was out of shape. Someone who had given up.
What makes his story so remarkable and inspirational is the difficult choice he made. After his doctor told him he only had several years to live, he realized he had 3 choices:
1-Get surgery. But there’s a chance he could die.
2-Kill himself by burning himself alive. This way there would be no evidence he ever lived and no one could make fun of him and his weight after his death.
3-Lose the weight.
Ding. Ding. Ding. Ding. Ding. You guessed it, he chose Option 3. He wrote a letter to news reporter, Chris Powell and asked for help. Chris Powell did more than just respond, he became the support and motivation that David Smith needed to turn his life around and get the weight down and off. And here is where this massive man who resembled a blob transformed into well, a role model.
Their friendship didn’t stop after David lost the weight. David and Chris became best friends, room mates and now they have partnered together and created Reshape The Nation. Check out the Reshape The Nation channel on YouTube. They make a video every day to motivate you.
