Lars Bastholm in quite possibly the most boring interview ever

22 Apr

Lars Bastholm, formerly at AKQA, is now at Ogilvy as the Chief Creative Digital Officer of North America. I was hoping this video would share more of Lars’ incredible wisdom, but alas, it made me realize that Ogilvy has no idea about his talent and brilliance. The questions were weak. Super weak. I mean c’mon, challenge him. There’s so much cool stuff happening in the digital space and all you got Lars to say is that brands should be integrated and agencies should work together instead of being siloed. Duh!

I can already tell Lars has his work cut out for him. Hopefully, the people at Ogilvy listen to him and get behind him. There’s nothing worse than working for an unsupportive team who doesn’t give a shit about digital and is pretending like they care because it’s the cool thing to do.

Get your QR Code!

Here’s my QR code. Hotdiggity!

Make your own QR code here.

QD codes are simply barcodes that you shoot with your camera phone and it then takes the data and provides a hyperlink which sends you to a website.

Here’s a demo.

The potential for QR codes are huge. Product safety warnings on labels. Discounts on newspaper ads. You could even do a music video like The Pet Shop Boys did with their hit “Integral” a few years ago. Very cool

Super simple execution

Super simple execution

All too often you see ads that have nothing to do with the website they’re advertising on. It’s like agencies created one execution and blanketed the web. So when I stumble across an ad that’s based around the site and its users, I find it refreshing. This is the case with Mini.

Will Ashton be Twitter's biggest leader?

Will Ashton be Twitter's biggest leader?

Ashton Kutcher has challenged CNN to a Twitter fan contest. No one on Twitter has 1 million followers. Yet.

Right now, the top 3 are:

1. CNN with 939,456 Followers
2. Britney Spears with 904,902 Followers
3. Ashton Kutcher with 894,441 Followers

Or if you feel like getting crazy, heck, follow me.

Who will be crowned? You decide. Follow your favorite–if you even have one.

Is your big idea worthy of a press release?

Crispin's Burger King Cologne

Crispin's Burger King Cologne

It’s an interesting approach and it seems to be working for CP+B. It seems like this is a lesson straight out of this book I discovered while at Brandcenter. It’s called “How To Be More Creative” and it was printed in the 70’s and the only place I’ve ever found it is in the gift shop at the Hirshorne Museum in DC. One of the lesson is about how we stop too soon. I remember Jerry Torchia used to say this all of the time. We stop way before we’ve come up with the really big idea. And I guess this press release idea is one way to make sure you push yourself further and don’t stop too soon.

“One thing we do as we begin a creative project, instead of working on specific media, we write press releases about our ideas. For example, a press release for the Whopper Freakout campaign would say, “Burger King announced today they would be removing the Whopper from their restaurants.” It would go on to talk about consumer outrage. It’s a good way to determine whether you have a rich idea or not. If an idea is good enough for someone to write about, it’s probably good enough for someone to talk about.

We don’t want to find some trend and then do advertising that basically lies about the product to attach it to the trend in the hope that it will sell. If it’s Burger King, and we want to help guys who are being inundated with the notion of metrosexuality, understand that it’s OK to have a killer burger — that’s a great path.”

The Bilderberg Group = The Linderman Group

9 Apr

My sister thinks the Bilderberg Group is the NEW WORLD ORDER. I had never heard of the Bilderberg Group and after watching a few YouTube videos, I can’t help but think that these conspiracy theories about the Bilderberg Group’s quest for world domination and total power seem sort of like The Linderman Group on Heroes.
